The Courage To Be Disliked By Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga

“When Alexander the Great cut the Gordian knot, there were probably those who felt the same way: that the unraveling of the knot by hand had meaning, and that it was a mistake to cut it with a sword; that Alexander had misunderstood the meaning of the oracle’s word.”

We often forget that we have the freedom to create our own path in life and don’t have to follow society’s ideologies. However, we can sometimes get trapped by our own rules that don’t make sense.

Ichiro and Fumitake’s book is based on Adlerian psychology and is written in a way that avoids being a typical, boring textbook. It doesn’t require you to overthink the ideas presented by philosophers and leaves you with a blank stare on your face.

Overall, this book is one of my favorites. It made me question how people think and view life and gave me a new perspective on why people might act the way they do. It is a valuable resource for anyone looking to better understand the human psyche.

Key Notes:

* “No experience is in itself a cause of our failure. We do not suffer from the shock of our experiences, the so-called trauma, but instead, we make out of them whatever suits our purposes. We are not determined by our experiences, but the meaning we give them is” self-determining.”

* You should not focus on past experiences and focus on present goals

* The first step to change is knowing
