When someone comes to me, they know they’re going to hurt and bleed and sweat, but they will know there is a game plan behind that.
A few words to describe this book are inspiring and humbling. Tareq has had the option to complain about why the world is so cruel and unfair, but instead, he took his opportunity and made it his mess his message. Tariq’s grandmother is one of the reasons why he didn’t take that route and instead pushed himself to be better in his work. Tareq’s family history motivated him to be better. Especially knowing his grandmother’s story. She had a tough life of her own and still didn’t complain about why her life was so harsh and cruel; instead, she made sure her family’s future generations had a better life than she had.
Key Notes;
Everything he does has intention, a bigger picture. Not many people I’ve personally had this personality trait. Sometimes as humans, we get lost in the hype of life events that maybe happening, and we forget to look at the bigger picture.
Another thing he talks about in his book is fear and what it does to us. As kids, we grow up with curiosity and fear but at some point at some point fear takes over our curiosity, and we become paralyzed and stay in that state of mind. And we forget that in order to overcome that fear of moving forward there might be pain, and that pain is growth.
QUOTES ;
“You can’t erase ink, son.” I took that to mean that he couldn’t cheat his customers by changing the dollar amounts. He could screw people over if he wanted, but he was a man of humility and honor. I respected that immensely.
I learned that if you need help, you should be humble enough to ask for it.
I believe our impact begins with our intention.
Fear is where the heart and head intersect. We get stuck because we are trying to put those things into a blender and assign them the same responsibilities, as if the emotional answer is the same as a mental answer or a physical answer. Rather, each of those parts has its own ability to process fear and discomfort. When we allow ourselves to experience these emotions, a natural synchronization takes place. It’s not something we need to force. When your heart and head come together in the face of fear, then you will know what it means to experience unconditional love.
